Go to JohnMcCain.com and read the ‘Issues’ section and specifically Iraq.

First Paragraph:

Senator McCain’s stated goal is to “disarm Sunni and Shia militias”. Hmmmm, we can’t disarm people in our own cities and this is how we are going to measure success in Iraq? What about bin Laden?

Curt, love you as a pitcher and as a competitor but patriotism isn’t just about fighting and winning wars….especially wars fought for financial gain. If you disagree, fine. But of the 19 hijackers none, I repeat none, where from Iraq.

With the housing crisis, record job cuts in Feb and the dollar at an all time low it would be nice if we could focus on American issues. Voting for McCain is like voting for another term of Bush.

This war has cost us a trillion dollars and I cant see spending another trillion to 'disarm militia'.

Lastly, and respectfully, millions of Americans look to baseball to get away from all of this stuff. Just because players make a lot of money does not make them an authority on social and/or political issues. Like most people who make a lot of money they tend to be isolated from the problems of everyday people.

Stick to what you know, stick to baseball.

I respect all that you have done with the Boston Red Sox, but your political statements clearly lack real knowledge of US politics. After endorsing George Bush, how can we trust your judgment when it comes to politicians?? You backed George Bush and look how that turned out 7-8 years later....... yea Al gore and Kerry would have done so much worse right?? What I never understood was how you could be such a huge advocate for ALS, but support a president who vetoed critical stem cell research that could help the very same disease you support. The hypocrisy is difficult to truly understand.

Keep up the good work with your charitable contributions, and get better, but no more endorsements.

Thanks

Don't you love it when people who run for President are such fixated warmongers that they don't even know that Al-Quaida and terrible mullah rulers in Iran are MORTAL enemies! That is is an absurd notion to think that the Shiite Iranian government would train radical Sunnis to go to go to Iraq and kill their Shiite allies!

Curt-
Crazy question....

Our 8 year old son has been given an assignment to write/present a report about a "famous" baseball player--guess who his player is? You got it--you!

Is there anyway you could send him a letter or something--just to add a little extra touch..just something indicating that he took some time to find out about you and all your great causes other than baseball! If you can't no big deal we totally understand! If there is anything you can do to help him out please contact us at one of the following email addresses--I don't want to put anything more out here in the "public view."
Thanks and keep up all your great work!

Curt,
As a Sox fan since birth- I would trade our WS victories for a reversal of the mess your president has gotten us in on the brink of 5 years in Iraq. I will admit that you are great athlete, and I generally root for you on the hill, but when you stumped for Bush in Ohio in 04 you lost all credibility as an intelligent human. Stick to what you are good at, or were good at. We all know you want to run for office- seems like you should hurry up and do it before your illustrious party and its leaders run our wonderful nation into the ground.
remember: the highest form of patriotism is dissent; possibly you should consider your level of patriotism since you have followed a flawed leader as if he was a prophet for 8 years now.
Thanks for the help with the WS- although I sometimes think we would be better off without you coming here at all since it gave you such an incredibly opportunity to grandstand.

Curt, are we watching the same media? Have you not watched the media basically call Hillary Clinton a bad human being on a near-daily basis? Declare Sen. Obama (who you've said you admire) to be the victim of a negative campaign all the while he smears the Clintons every day, essentially calling them bad people and lying by accusing them of racism? Do you really not see this incredible bias towards the man who apparently was born in Bethlehem?

But look on the bright side, Curt. If Obama wins then you and I may be on the same political side for a change. I'll probably wind up voting for McCain.

As for Iraq, I agree that there is a complexity there that liberals often don't want to see....but neither do conservatives. President Bush (I'll give him his proper title, even though you simply called our fine former president "Clinton") allowed the Iraqis (read: the Shiite Majority) to draft their own constitution, something that was not allowed of the Germans and Japanese. When you have just gone through what they have been through under Sadam you are not thinking clearly about the need to build a better future for all--you are often thinking about revenge. That constitution was designed to benefit the Shiites at the expense of the Sunnis, down to the distribution of oil revenue. It was bound to provoke and prolong a civil war. When you defend a nation, you are defending their consitution and the constitutional basis for their state. The Iraqi consitution is not worth defending IMO.

I admit that withdrawal is not the perfect answer either. There are no good solutions here, just the least bad one. It is often hard to figure out what that is. Right about now I wish that Iraq had a king or queen we could turn to. But no such luck.

Dear Curt and the Sox,

The past 3 days have probably been some of the most trying days of my life. I'm a 26 year old medical student and of course, die-hard sox fan. I'm planning on getting married in a few weeks (April 5, 2008). My brother, who I love dearly, planned a trip of a life time for me and 11 of my best friends. It was my batchelor party which was supposed to be taking place in Fort Myers this weekend, March 14-16. Unfortunately, my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about 22 months ago. On thursday morning, he was ambulanced to the hosptial and placed in the ICU. He's not doing so well right now. I even wore a "hope is a good thing" t-shirt yesterday with a picture the blood sock. We even had tickets to this afternoons game vs. Cincinnatti at City of Palms park! We canceled the trip. This is the hardest thing I've ever gone through in my life. I'm almost ashamed to say that one of the only bright spots in my day yesterday was obviously seeing my grandmother fly in, but also seeing the Sox beat the Orioloes 7-4 last night. I know it's an exhibition game, but every win helps me. It brings a shine of light to a very gloomy period in my life. The Red Sox organization was extremely gracious in refunding our "non-refundable" tickets for the game in Fort Myers. I will always appreciate that. I'm hoping to be able to reschedule my trip for boston now, but obviously, tickets are hard to come by and really not affordable for a medical student. In what's probably the hardest time in my life, the Red Sox are there. They're there to pick you up, they're there to let you know you're still alive. No matter what happens, I know they'll be there for me, even though they don't know me. I simply wanted to let the organization know how much they mean to me and my mother (who made me a Sox fan!). Please pass this on the organization and I hope to see the guys soon on Yawkey way. Much love and thanks. Sincerely, Daniel Goldstein

Please accept my most sincere apology. After I left the above email asking you your thoughts about the situation here in New York,I read that you have been placed on the 60 day DL. Your health and your well being is far more important than anything else, political or otherwise. So I do apologize for bothering you with other things at a time that must be very difficult for you, physically and emotionally. As for being on the DL list,I am so very very sorry that it happened but I wish you all the best, hope that you improve dramatically during that time, and look forward to the time when you will be well,or better, and once again be out on the field, off the DL. In the meantime, hang in there(been there, done that, continue to do it-have a metal plate and nine screws in my ankle-so I know that it is not easy physically or emotionally) and know that my thoughts are with you, always. I am aware that you will not respond to this email but once again I do apologize for bothering you with the state of afairs in New York when you have much more important things to contend with right now;your health and well being are of the utmost importance to not only you but to me,who supports you and will be with you every step of the way. I hope that you can accept my apology...

As someone here in New York(and I hate the New York Yankees,do not support them at all and do not wish them well),I have a quick question for you. I made a very interesting observation the other day when I noticed that you do not reply to the postings giving you support and encouragement(see my previous postings),which I understand as there are a lot of them, yet you reply to the ones having to do with politics, the war,and McCain. So along that line,I have a quick question for you. As you know,my state of New York is in a bit of turmoil right now with the resignation of the governor and the reasons for it. As you seem to be very outspoken when it comes to politics, which is a good thing,I was just wondering what your thoughts or comments were regarding the downfall and "screwing up"(which is much more polite than what I could have said)of Governor Spitzer. Just curious...I hope as always that you are improving and I look forward to more of your postings, which are informational and very enjoyable. Am interested to know your thoughts on Governor Spitzer and what he did-perhaps you would like to be governor of New York?
