I’m very much looking forward to Warhammer. I’m in a fantastic guild and this game is very well made and I expect it to hold a solid 1 million subs for the first year and possibly do even better than that in the future. It is not a WoW clone and has it’s own unique gameplay that is centered around pvp via the RvR format with Public Quests, Scenarios, and Open World Realm vs Realm. It’s going to be great.

Mark Jacobs, the CEO of Mythic Entertainment, even gave a shout out to your blog on his personal blog in thanks for mentioning his game. Good stuff.

They have some top-notch animators, these cinematics are amazing — think this was all done in Maya? — pretty big difference, though, between cut scenes and actual rendered gameplay, and it’s hard to tell much about the game design from these trailers.

You can play a game for art and animation, environment, cut scenes, setting and music… but usually only for a short while. Thus far (short history, liable to change, grain of salt, etc.) it’s not art and animation so much as end game, economy, social, pvp and gameplay technical issues which create a successful long-term brand. WoW cannot be the final result in this space, innovation will come in game design instead of only in production (I’m not a game designer, but I have a lot of faith in American ingenuity). Just hard to say if War is in that class yet.

Still, it’s obvious from art like this that the game industry can surpass film when it comes to animation, story, sound design and music, which is great for those of us trying to make our mark in this field.

I don’t know whether this has been pointed out elsewhere, but it’s worth saying here & now: You called Tampa Bay’s success this season long before *anyone* else saw what the Rays were about.

I’m remembering last summer or fall, when you were quoted as saying Tampa Bay was going to be a strong team, and that might be a good rotation to mentor. People laughed at you.

Who’s laughing now?

Would love to hear your observations on the season at some point before the playoffs. What have you paid attention to? Which teams or players have surprised or disappointed you? What the heck happened to the Indians and Tigers?

Hi Curt,

The video was amazing, but cinematics are one thing, play is another. I took your advice and tried PotBS, and leveled a 50 pirate. The game then became very boring, and I went back to WoW.

I am hoping that Warhammer is as good as the video! However; with WotLK right around the corner, I think I will be sticking with that instead.

I wanted to write, for another reason. I am about to face some fears stemming from the loss of my twins, and the near death of my wife. Before I set out on the journey, I saw a Red Sox shirt with your name on it. I wanted to let you know, that my reason why I decided to wear it.

I know you will be modest, but your perseverance in 2004 that is inspiring me to face some very tough demons. If you could face that, I can face some memories of a nightmarish situation that lasted 3 months, and ended in losing my twins. I wanted to thank you for your bravery in that situation. It goes way beyond sport to see someone with that type of heart.

Thanks again, for giving it everything. You are a true hero.

Curt, So happy that rehab is going good. I know its a long process. I have been trieing to keep a positive attitude myself after my 07 car accident.It seems that I have fallen through the cracks of the system while so many dishonest people out there know the game and play the system very well. Yes I am a gamer myself. I usually ply first person shooter online games with a group of old men like me. Average age 40+. Most of my gaming buddies have been trieing to direct me to WoW for quite a while. But while its been a year with zero income (living off savings) I cant even think about getting into WoW. I also just wanted you to know that you are not forgotton and you are still a Boston Hero in my mind anad Im sure many other fans out there. Keep up the rehab and I hope we see you back on the mound in o9. Or involved with the RS org. in some capacity.

I’ve been playing WoW since its inception (sorry, Curt, I hate the horde - lol) and have had no interest in playing another MMORPG until now. That trailer looked incredible and I just may have to try the game. ; )
