A rotation featuring Beckett, Santana as the top two is pretty much as good as it can get. The thought of pitching behind these guys has to fire ya up. That being said I look at it like this.
If we make the move we’ll have done so with Theo knowing whatever he had to trade to acquire him he can restock those spots either from within, or via trade. How much is too much when you’re talking about trading for the best left handed pitcher in the game? How much is too much when you consider what he and Josh could do over the next 5-6 years. (more…)

Seems like I walked out of the office Monday evening and turned around and it’s Friday already. Yesterday was spent regrouping from the out and back SF trip.
To say the day was full on Wednesday would be horribly misleading. Starting at about 7am we didn’t stop until we landed in Boston around 3am the next morning. I don’t really know how the Q&A went that started the day off other than to say nothing we talked about was new ground. Explaining to a room full of VCs all of your business philosophies and how you plan to lay out and follow a road map gets easier every time when you factor in the people leading the parade. (more…)

Sitting in the Logan Airport waiting on a flight to San Francisco. Speaing tomorrow at the Dow Jones-sponsored Consumer Technology Innovations conference in Redwood City, then a few meetings and back tomorrow night.
You can check it out at http://consumertechnologyinnovations.dowjones.com/
Always interesting to be in front of and among the money/brains behind and inside the tech world. I’m also amazed at how much of the world I live in translates to the real world of business from a leadership standpoint. (more…)

Got to thinking about the repsonse here, and around the city of Boston, to Mike Lowells return for the next 3 years. Anyone that wants to post a thank you, say what you want under this thread, when its run its course I will print it out, and forward to him. I think he’d get a kick, and a good laugh, out of it.
LATE EDIT!
I wanted to also give anyone interested a heads up. On December 12th Shonda and I will be attending this event:

The first snow is hitting the ground as I type this from my office in Maynard. Mike Lowell is in fact back, which is fantastic news.
Huge trade last night between the Sox (the white ones) and the Angels. I am and always have been a HUGE Orlando Cabrera fan. I became an even bigger fan when he became a teammate. This guy is different. A total team player with a unique skillset. Until I watched Alex Gonzalez play here last year OCab was the best SS I’d ever played with. Alex had what I thought was the most dominating defensive season I’d ever witnessed last year (much the same as I felt Coco did in CF this year). (more…)

Per ESPN Mikey Lowell is back. How cool is that? Leaving years and dollars on the table to come back here for three more years, good stuff. Pretty nice to think you are fans in a town that is now a desired destination for athletes across the major sports. Come a long way for sure.
Congrats to Mike and I’ve already spoken with a few guys on the team and suffice to say we’re all ectstatic. Now to get back to the FF beatings he’s been taking all year!

I’d like to first pass along our sincerest sympathy and condolences to the surviving members of the Nuxhall family. Mr Nuxhall was one of my favorite media personalities over the past 20 some years in baseball. An incredibly kind man with time for everyone. (more…)

Playing catch up here at 38. Meetings meetings and more meetings. We are working diligently to put some very important pieces in place, as a company and a family. I look at the people working under this roof and feel an immense responsibility not just to them, but to their spouses and their children. (more…)

Wow, 275 million for 10 years. Holy crap. The only argument you might make is that no ones worth that, hell none of us are worth that much relative to ‘real world’ salaries. But if someone in the game was getting a contract that big I am not sure you could argue it being Alex. On the field this guy is the MVP in waiting every year it seems. Just amazing to see how far this game has come revenue wise. I think the number this year was over 6 Billion in revenue generated. (more…)

Up around 4:30am for a short run. Then onto the airport where I met up with Paul Lessard (Head Trainer) Mike Reinold (Asst. Trainer) and Dave Page (Strength and Conditioning Coach). Quick 1 hour 20 minute flight down to Delaware for a check under the hood and a fix it lesson. (more…)
